500 usd raised for Haiti

Thank you to all who participated in the Haiti initiative for raising 500 usd in a week. Although you see my name below, this thankful note is to all of you who supported with donations and energy.

With your timely contribution to the American Red Cross, we are helping our partner society in Haiti to provide critical assistance to the untold number of people affected by the catastrophic earthquake. With your generosity, you have enabled us to provide critical assistance to the untold number of people affected by the earthquake and its aftershocks. Almost immediately, the American Red Cross released $10 million to support humanitarian relief activities. Our disaster response experts have joined our staff in Haiti and Red Cross volunteers from around the world to establish field hospitals, restore water and sanitation systems and distribute supplies. As we learn more about the situation in Haiti, we are expanding our support by sending additional staff, supplies, and financial aid.

Dear Teodora,
Since returning home from Haiti last week, I’ve felt as though I left a part of my heart there with the courageous survivors and Red Cross volunteers.
I filmed a short video while I was at our headquarters in Croix de Prez to give you a sense of what it’s like on the ground.
Relief is getting through to the survivors but the road to recovery will take years. Here are just a few examples of how donations are helping:
$10Provides a first aid kit equipped with enough ointment and bandages for a Red Cross responder to treat 15-20 injured earthquake survivors.
$30 Provides one month’s worth of essential hygiene materials for five people, including items like toothbrushes, shampoo, toilet paper and towels.
$100Will furnish a family of five with a cooking set, hygiene pack, blankets and water containers.
$500Will provide a tent large enough for a family of five to use as a temporary shelter.

The magnitude of devastation I saw in Haiti was incredible. But the thing that struck me most was the people—their resilience and bravery in the face of this tragedy.
